The lectures are held Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10:10 AM to 11:00 AM in room 415 in the Nielsen Physics Building. This is the big lecture hall next to the front entrance.

See the course syllabus for the schedule. Please try to read the assigned chapters before coming to class, to obtain the maximum benefit from the lectures. The lectures are meant to supplement the material in the text book. The online material is also an important element of this class. Most homework will consist of reading the book, looking at the online material, and trying the online quizzes.

The only way to understand the course material is to work through it on your own. If you read all the material, come to the lectures, and try the online quizzes and learn from them, you should do well on the tests. Extra credit will be available for those willing to do some extra work.

Laboratories are held according to the schedule in the laboratory syllabus. Attendance is required, and excessive absences may result in course failure. See the lab syllabus for details. The laboratory makes up 25% of the course grade.

Office hours are an 11 AM to noon, MWF, or by special arrangement. Please make an appointment. You can use the e-mail address or phone number at the top of this page if you have any questions or desire a meeting. There will also be a discussion page which should assist with your studies.

The final grade is determined by three exams, four short quizzes, a comprehensive final, and the laboratory grade. The Comprehensive Exam will be worth 25% of the final grade, and each of the other three exams will be worth 10% of the grade. The lab counts 25%. The remaining 20% will be based on quizzes and participation. Many Extra Credit opportunities are available. You should especially be sure to take advantage of the sky viewing sessions.

A Minimum of 50% credit is required to pass the course, with at least 65% of the lab credit, and no more than one unexcused lab absence.
