Grades

Your grade for the course will be determined by a combination of factors weighted as indicated below. The grading scale will be fixed as shown. A good grade is something to be earned through hard work and dedication, and showing mastery of the material.

The minimum passing grade is a final total of 60.0%, including a laboratory grade of at least 60.0% as well. Failing laboratory grades are unacceptable. If you fail the laboratory, you fail the course as well.

Attendance is required. Excessive absences (25% or more) will result in failure of the course. This is general Baylor policy. All absences count, excused or not.

You may view your grades on the Blackboard system. Homework grades can be viewed while logged into the CAPA system.

Hour Exams 40% - 45%*  90.0 - 100.0 A
Comprehensive Final 15% - 20%*  86.0 - 89.9 B+
Homework 20%  80.0 - 85.9 B
Laboratory 20%  76.0 - 79.9 C+
100%  70.0 - 75.9 C
Must have passing laboratory grade.  60.0 - 69.9 D

* Grading Options

Two grading options will be offered, and the one which maximizes your final grade will be used. (There is no need for you to choose an option - this will be done by calculation.)

  1. The best three of the four hour exams will be averaged and will count 40% of your final grade. The final exam will count 20%.
  2. All four hour exams will be averaged, and will count 45% of your final grade. The final exam will count 15%.

Final Exam and Course Grades

The raw average on the final exam was 19.2, with a high score of 26 out of 30. The normalized average was 79% with a high score of 94%. The overall course average, calculated as described on this page, was 77.1%. The grade distributions are shown below for the final exam and final grade. There is no "curve" on the final grade.
