We describe the construction of a class of cubic gauge-invariant actions for superstring field theory, and the gauge-fixing of one representative. Fermion string fields are taken in the -1/2 picture and boson string fields in the 0 picture, which makes a picture-changing insertion carrying picture number -2 necessary. The construction of all such operators is outlined. We discus the gaugeb1 + b-1 = 0, in which the action formally linearizes. Nontrivial scattering amplitudes are obtained by approaching this gauge as a limit.
