Unfortunately, my group never got off the ground, but JPs has succeeded tremendously. I'm so proud. Anyway, I'm going off the net soon, and I thought it might be appropriate to list some of my favorite JPisms: * Never managing to fill out a UUCP map or NACR right -- no it's their fault! * Virtual lawyers * This message is a forgery, no, wait the last one was, no it wasn't * Ummm... I'm starting up a multinational internet service, can anyone explain to me how SLIP works? * Upgrading from a VIC-20 to a Commodore-64 * Oh... that CMSG should have *never* left my local site -- no! I meant to delete all those groups, they don't deserve to exist, bwah hah hahah -- hey, that was a forgery, most probably by Jiro or Kibo. * Modems, we got modems cheap -- sorry, that'll be cash upfront * Wanna free BBS connection, bud? * You couldn't sell them, you couldn't even give them away.... * I don't need no steekin PGP, *I'm* not the one having problems with forgeries * Uhh... have they ported PGP to the Commodore-64 yet? * I don't run Michigan.com/tygra/Rabbit Net/CairParavel/Thundercat/etc. Mr. XXYY does. * Hey, I just work here, duh..... * "We're sorry, we've taken steps to discipline Mr. Palmer." - The Management, Rabbit Net * I don't read alt.fan.john-palmer.... hey, how *dare* you say that, I'm gonna sue you for that! * You're all insane, all of you, I'm gonna lock you all up, hah hah hah.... * Has anyone ported LINUX to the Commodore-64? * Come join our multinational, high speed network. Uhhh.... does anyone know how to install CNEWS? * This message was a forgery. And so on and so forth and so on. Sigh.... I'll miss you, JP. It |is run by John Palmer, of long-time net.infamy regarding numerous, |repeated, uncontrollable fits of netiquette failure dating back to at |least mid-1990. His reputation precedes him, and he is, to be blunt, |a pathological liar. Every time something uncool happens which comes |from him, you will find him claiming that the original article was a |forgery. And then the claims of forgery are described as forgeries. |His earliest fits of asocial behavior regarded threats to sic the FBI |on individuals participating in a newgroup/rmgroup war in alt.*, on |the claim that they were "making unauthorized changes to his news |system." Most recently, the difficulties with alt.tv.tiny-toon were |described by John as having originated from (no kidding) a skinhead |Nazi trying to get revenge on him. No supporting evidence beyond |John's say-so was ever produced. Please see the FAQ of |alt.usenet.kooks, note the newsgroup alt.fan.john-palmer, and observe |that this is a man who ritually castigates anyone who disagrees with |him in public with "asshole." | |Further, the anonymous system he is using is a very old release of my |original multiple-group anonymous server, which first ran on |godiva.nectar.cs.cmu.edu and then later on mesquite.charcoal.com. |That release is old, lacking in important privacy-related features, |and, as deployed on tygra.michigan.com, demonstrably buggy. Of not |insignificant importance is the fact that his integration of the |server into a "smail"-based mail transport environment is (shall I be |kind? well, OK) incomplete at best. This has been observed |empirically in terms of mail bounces generated by the server. | |This anonymous server is not to be trusted. Please, do yourself a |favor, and _do_not_use_it_. | |"As for John Palmer's [anonymous] server, I wouldn't trust it with a playdough | recipe, much less something sensitive like asking for career advice." | --Kate Gregory , | in regard to use of anonymous servers | in sci.research.careers | |And I'll wager the price of lunch that John will, for the 3rd or 4th |time by now, threaten me with his virtual lawyers for discussing him |in these terms, even though not one of those virtual lawyers has ever |managed to make a corporeal visitation on anyone, ever.
