Above you a high mountain towers vertiginously. Kibo lives at the top of this mountain, in a blaze of light. It's the concentrated glare of a thousand sitcoms seen at once. The higher kibologists soar above the plain, their wings glittering in the sunlight. But they don't get too close to the light. On the plain roam "ordinary kibologists". These two groups are mainly pod people, robots, rogue AIs, zombies, and lion-headed aliens but there are some humans amongst them. Around the plain is the dark forest between the newsgroups. In the fringes of the forest lurk shy, snuffling creatures - mainly renegade teletubbies. We survive by scavenging the scorched blobs of cheese or orbitz which periodically rain down from the mountain top, which are usually quite easy to distinguish from the doots of the higher kibologists. Sometimes a usenet kook will run shrieking and jabbering out of the forest, or a traveller like yourself will wander past the great stone durian at the edge of the glade. Why not? You're allowed, after all. -- Andrew Pearson: "exactly what the web needs less of".
