Oracle/6E preview: comments on Mirage (Many cantrips upgraded from "next turn/upkeep" to "now"...) (Changed from "when you play X, choose..." to "when X comes into play, choose": Prismatic Circle, Ward of Lights, Mangara's Equity, Null Chamber, Shimmer, Quirion Elves, Roots of Life Changed creature types: Was Now Femeref Scouts Scouts Soldier [Sort of boo.] Mtenda Herder Scout Townsfolk [Okay, boo. Especially since the Goblin Scout tokens _are_ still Scouts (and also Goblins).] Cerulean Wyvern Wyvern Drake [Boo hiss.] Abyssal Hunter Hunter Minion [Boo. Black does _not need more Minions_.] Ekundu Cyclops Cyclops Giant [Boo hiss.] Femeref Archers Archers Soldier [Ditto.] Locust Swarm Swarm Insect [Boo hiss. Plus Yavimaya Ants/Alliances got exactly the _opposite_ change - sheesh] Maro Nature Spirit Elemental Uktabi Wildcats Wildcats Cat & Warrior [Actually _introduces_ a mistake.] Windreaper Falcon Falcon Bird [Boo hiss.] Basalt, Crystal, Igneous, Lead, Patagia, Sand Golems (none) Golem [Okay.] Ersatz Gnomes (none) Gnome (Spells that used to have an additional cost which now have it in the effect:) Withering Boon, Carrion, Infernal Contract, Phyrexian Purge (And one that went the other way and shouldn't have: Drain Life) (Why _do_ these all spell _out_ the color of mana produced, rather than using a mana symbol, anyway? And why don't -all- of the mana abilities do this?) Dazzling Beauty 2W Instant Target unblocked, attacking creature is considered blocked. Draw a card. [Now used in the declare-blockers, combat-damage, or end-of-combat step. Instead of 'at the time blockers are declared'. _Good_. (Though I'm fairly curious to see what happens to False Orders...)] Afterlife 2W Instant Destroy target creature. It can't be regenerated. That creature's controller puts a 1/1 white Essence creature token with flying into play. [That player puts it into play, instead of you doing so, so they are the owner of the token now, not you as it worked previously.] Mangara's Blessing 2W Instant You gain 5 life. / If a spell or ability controlled by an opponent forces you to discard ~, you gain 2 life and return ~ from your graveyard to your hand at end of turn. [For clarity: "you gain 2 life, and at end of turn return ~...". If they're not going to be done at the same time, which I believe the intent is, let's make that clear. If they're both supposed to happen at end of turn, then make it "...to discard ~, at end of turn you gain 2 life, then return...".] Mtenda Griffin 3W Creature - Griffin 2/2 Flying W,Tap: Return ~ to its owner's hand and return target Griffin card in your graveyard to your hand. Play this ability only during of your upkeep. ["...only during your upkeep."] Shadowbane 1W Instant Prevent all damage that would be dealt this turn to you or target creature you control from a source of your choice. If that source is black, you gain that much life. ["...you gain life equal to the damage prevented this way."] Unyaro Griffin 3W Creature - Griffin 2/2 Flying Sacrifice ~: Counter target red instant or sorcery spell. [Now no longer requires the spell to deal -damage- etc. Does not have to "see the future"; doesn't have Equinox problems any more.] Vigilant Martyr W Creature - Martyr 1/1 Sacrifice ~: Regenerate target creature. / WW,Tap,Sacrifice ~: Counter target spell that targets an enchantment in play. ["in play" is redundant ... but will cut a particular FAQ off at the root, so okay.] Auspicious Ancestor 3W Creature - Ancestor 2/3 When ~ is put into the graveyard from play, you gain 3 life. / Whenever a white spell is played, you may pay 1. If you do, you gain 1 life. ["is put into a graveyard from".] Celestial Dawn 1WW Enchantment Nonland cards you own that aren't in play are white. Nonland permanents you control are white. Lands you control are plains. Colored mana symbols in the costs on all those cards and permanents are W. [Delete the "in the costs", please. Rulings-file/Errata oops.] Null Chamber 3W Enchant World When ~ comes into play, you and an opponent each name a card except a basic land card. / Those cards can't be played. ["...each name a card that's not a basic land card"] Sacred Mesa 2W Enchantment At the beginning of your upkeep, sacrifice ~ unless you sacrifice a Pegasus. / 1W: Put a 1/1 white Pegasus creature token with flying into play. [The token is no longer also a "Wild Pegasus".] Soul Echo XWW Enchantment ~ comes into play with X echo counters on it. / At the beginning of your upkeep, if there are no echo counters on ~, sacrifice it. Otherwise, an opponent may choose that for each 1 damage that would be dealt to you until your next upkeep, you remove 1 echo counter from ~ instead. / You don't lose the game as a result of having less than 1 life. [Note that since this _isn't_ a pure "At
