James White Fort

Go back to 1786 to the first pioneer structure ever built in Knoxville - the James White Fort.

Immerse yourself in history as you walk through the original home of Knoxville's founder, still standing proudly after all these years.

Capture the true feeling of the period as you see and touch the furnishings, tools and other artifacts that were once a part of our ancestors' daily lives.

Also learn about the founding of Knoxville and the key role the James White Fort played in creating this great city.

James White is buried along with the city's other founders including William Blount and Reverend Samuel Carrick. Rev. Carrick was First Presbyterian Church's first pastor and the first president of the present day University of Tennessee.
