SYLLABUS

This is the schedule for the Fall, 2002 term of Physics 101. The details are subject to change. You should return to this page frequently to see the homework assignments and any answers which may be posted for the tests or homework. In each chapter, you can test your understanding through the exercises, problems, and cases at the ends of the chapters. The answers to the odd numbered questions are in the back of the book. We will go through some of the rest in class, and some answers will be posted here.

You should begin working the homework problems as soon as we start on a chapter, and try to do them in parallel with the material presented in class. Do not leave them all until the chapter is finished. Then it is time to move on to the new homework.

The homework is not graded, but it is difficult to do well on the tests if you haven't worked through it. You should do enough of it to be confident that you understand the material. If you find the material difficult, you should spend more time on the homework, not less. Look at the online supplement as well. Conversely, if you find the material easy, you may be able to skip some of the more repetitive problems which you know how to do already.

The final grade is determined by three exams and a final. The final makes up 25% of the grade. Each of the other three exams makes up 20% of the grade. The remaining 15% will consist of quizzes or other measures of participation.
