The Ketetahi Hot Spring lies on a small island of private ground inside
Tongariro National Park. In spite of the posted signs and the foul smell of
the silty gray water, it is a popular spa for trampers stopping at the
nearby hut. The water gets hotter higher up in the spring, until it is
eventually boiling. Walking there is unadvisable, since it is possible to
fall throught the unstable soil and be seriously burned.
