Emerald Lakes

The beautiful green Emerald Lakes lie just below the summit of Mt. Tongariro, below the red crater. Many steam vents are nearby, and in the rain, steam rises from the warm ground all around, creating a hellishly beautiful atmosphere. (Jan. 9, 1996)
