Day 1 Trampers arrive by boat.
The guided walkers stop almost immediately at Glade House, while the
independent walkers continue on to Clinton Hut. The walk through the
rainforest is easy and level. (Dec. 12, 1995)
Day 2 The second day's walk up Clinton Canyon features views of many waterfalls cascading down the steep sides of the glacial valley. A shelter called the "Bus Stop" provides a place to wait in case a stream is impassable due to rain. Guided walkers stop at Pompoloma, and independent walkers continue to Mintaro Hut, next to a small lake. (Dec. 13, 1995) Day 3 The third day has the only steep climb, up and over Mackinnon Pass. The trail descends to Quintin, where the guided walkers stop. A side hike leads to the 580m high Sutherland Falls. Independent walkers continue along the Arthur River to Dumpling Hut. (Dec. 14, 1995) Day 4 The final day's walk is very level, following the river to Milford Sound, passing Mackay Falls and Giant's Gate, two small but beautiful waterfalls. A boat carries trampers to Milford, across the sound. (Dec. 15, 1995)
