La Paz and Illimani
La Paz, the world's highest capital city, is seen here from El Alto, home of the world's highest international airport, at 4010 meters (over 13,000 feet). In the distance is Illimani, the 6439 meter (21,125 foot) peak we would be climbing at the end of the trip.

[GranPoder]
Gran Poder
We arrived in La Paz just in time the Gran Poder festival on July 4. A colorful parade snaked through the crowded streets of La Paz all day, and the party seemed to go on all night as well.

[ladies]

These ladies in traditional Bolivian dress are shopping at one of the many outdoor markets in La Paz.

[titicaca]
Lake Titicaca and the Cordillera Real
The peaks of the Cordillera Real form a backdrop to Lake Titicaca, which straddles the Peru-Bolivia border on the Altiplano. We took a boat ride here before our climbs in the Condoriri group.
