Giant Fig Tree, Kabale Forest

[JPEG IMAGE] Kabale Forest is home to an incredible number of primate species, including chimpanzees, who like the giant fig trees. We didn't find any chimps this time, but trees were impressive. They are parasitic, and begin growing on the trunk of a host tree, which they eventually strangle. My driver, Baker, is standing between the roots. We did see an empty chimpanzee nest. They build two nests a day and never reuse them. (2/8/97)
