Camping on the Serengeti

We pitched our tents close together to camp on the Serengeti. You never know what will visit at night. I was awakened by noises outside our tent. I had no idea what was out there, and didn't want to open the tent to look. It started pushing against my back. Then I heard someone in the next tent say an elephant was out there. I hoped it would watch its step! When I looked out, the elephant was in the forest, but the camp was full of giant porcupines. (3/3/97)
