- Joel on Lower Bigo Bog
- Crossing the Bigo Bogs can be one of the most arduous parts of the circuit in wet weather. It was not difficult when I was there, because I went during the dry season. I never needed the high rubber boots I brought for crossing the bogs, and eventually gave them to my guide Joel, who is seen in this picture.

- Bujuku Lake and Mt. Stanley
- We had the first clear view of the peaks and glaciers of Mt. Stanley from near Bujuku Lake. I was planning to climb the highest peak, Margherita. I would be staying at Elena Hut on the edge of the glacier tomorrow. Tonight's camp was Bujuku Hut, just beyond the lake.

- Elena Hut
- My staff is gathered in front of Elena Hut, the highest camp on Mt. Stanley. Only my guide Joel, on the left, and my cook Richard, to his left, would stay with me here. The other porters went back to Bujuku Hut for the night, because they were not prepared for the cold conditions, which never went above freezing.

- Glacier on Savoia
- The afternoon I arrived at Elena Hut was cloudy, and views did not appear until sunset. These are the glaciers on Savoia, the peak just above the hut. Tomorrow's route up to Margherita would be over the glacier to the right, which leads to the Stanley Plateu.
