- My Porters
- I had a guide and two porters. My guide also had a porter. Each porter carried up to 15 kg of equipment in plastic bags carried on a head strap made of tree fiber.

- Portal Peaks
- The Portal Peaks are seen across the river from the first camp at Nyabitaba Hut. This is near the spot where loop of the circuit begins and ends, and is several hours from Ibanda. Aside from the high peaks, the surroundings here reminded me of the Apalachian Mountains at home.

- John Matte Hut
- John Matte Hut is one of the nicest in the Rwenzoris. Guy Yeoman Hut is similar. I am standing on the porch here, while Richard prepares to cook dinner below. I shared this hut with one other person, and had the remaining huts to myself, because the rebels in Zaire had scared off most tourists.

- The Peaks from John Matte Camp
- The first good view of the central Rwenzori peaks, including Mt. Stanley (center) and Speke (right), was from John Matte Camp, after the clouds lifted at sunset.
