The Summit: Uhuru Peak

[JPEG IMAGE] I was hoping to get to the summit, Uhuru Peak at 19340 feet, sometime close to sunrise, but we had seriously overestimated how long it would take, and at 5 degrees F, it was too cold to sit around long. We delayed long enough at my guide's last cigarette break that we weren't first to the top, but we still got there shortly after 5 AM, an hour and a half before sunrise. This was my last picture with my small camera before it froze. Fortunately the other survived. (2/28/97)
