Camp Barafu

Camp Barafu is the last camp before the summit. It is perched atop a narrow ridge with views of both Kibo and Mawenzi, once the weather cleared. Many climbers had trouble acclimatizing to the altitude, and didn't make it beyond this point. We would not be spending the night here, but would leave for the summit at 1 AM. (2/27/97)
