Spice Tour: Kids in the Rain
The dry season finally came to an end while I was on Zanzibar, in mid-March. We briefly had to lower the flaps on the truck to get out of the rain, and a bunch of kids climbed onto the back. (3/8/97)

Zanzibar Shoreline
This is a view of the shoreline in Zanzibar from the beach where we stopped for a swim on the Spice Tour. (3/8/97)

[dhow]
Dhow, Zanzibar Coast
Zanzibar has some beautiful beaches. I didn't spend much time at them, but we visited this one on the Spice Tour and took a swim. This dhow brought some of the swimmers back after they had gotten some distance away, in the next cove. (3/8/97)

Red Colobus Monkey
Jodozi Forest on Zanzibar is home to the endangered Red Colobus Monkey, of which only around 1500 remain. A park guide takes visitors to see the habituated "friendly monkeys". Less friendly ones are hiding in the forest as well. (3/9/97)

Fort Jesus
I stopped in Mombasa a night on my way from Zanzibar to Nairobi, where I would catch my flight home. Mombasa is a large modern city, complete with a Hard Rock Cafe, but its Old Town is also home to Fort Jesus, a 16th century Portugese fort, seen here. (3/11/97)
